2013 TBR Pile Challenge

This challenge is the nudge I’ve been needing. I don’t know about you guys, but I tend to gather alot of books that I plan to read, but never quite get round too. It’s hard enough keeping up with all the amazing books that are released yearly, without going back trying to catch up too! But that is exactly the plan!

Over the next year, alongside my Goodreads 2013 Reading Challenge, I’m gunna give this TBR pile challenge a go too. I’m aiming to be on the married with children level (thats 41-50 books, not anything else!). You can find my list for this challenge here. I’ll pobably add to this list as I go as oppose to trying to add everything to it now. Mostly because I’m lazy XD

I don’t know about you guys, but I feel like I’m always behind, forever playing the catch-up game. Is it really all that bad if you discover a book long after it’s release? If you pick and choose from different years, mixing and matching old with new? I don’t think so. In fact, I prefer being a little behind I think. Gives it time for the hype to die down and the mist to clear, so you can actually see if it’s worth reading or not. For me at least, staying behind means I don’t feel like I have to buy and read this book immediately just because it’s the latest thing. Makes for much more enjoyable reading!

This doesnt mean to say that we’ll forget all about this years books, because hey, just like every other book nerd, there are loads of books that are being released this year that I’m just dying to read! Regardless, this year is looking better by the minute and it seems to me like I’ll be reading more than I have in a very very long time. I can’t wait!

Taking the Plunge

Hi you crazy awesome reading fanatics you! My names Sara 🙂 This whole blogging thing is new to me but I’m hoping it’ll do what nothing else has been able to do quite well enough: allow me to rave and rant to my hearts content about amazing, awful and everything-in-between books in a place where this is an acceptable, even cherished form of behaviour!

I love giving honest-to-goodness opinions on books I’ve read, discussing everything from the beauty of it’s cover (and yes I DO judge a book by it’s cover. Doesn’t everyone secretly?!) to the ending.

I hope I find some equally book obsessed minds to discuss with! Dudes and dudettes that anticipate book releases as much as I do. Because I’m terrible at being a good little patient girl when it comes to my books.

On the day that Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy #6) was released, I practically ran down the doors of WHSmith at 9.30 on the dot heading straight for the YA section. The books were in sight, the rest of the series sitting prettily on the shelf, the familiar covers all but calling my name. And what do you know? Its not there! My Reading life flashed before my eyes as I had a mini internal melt down. You’d think such an amazing book would have been at the front of the store, dressed in lace and silk with its come-hither cover, daring the public NOT to come in and buy it. But no. It wasn’t even on the shelf with the rest of its family, the poor thing 😥

I hunted down the nearest sales assistant and all but screamed at her as I patiently asked WHERE the book was?! The poor woman was so nice, she went off to check if it had come in their latest delivery. After what felt like 6,581,727 years (but was closer to 10 minutes, which believe you me is longer than anyone suspects!) she came back, my book in hand. I smiled like the cat that had the creme do la creme insight, when she slapped me! (metaphorically of course! Hehehe)

She wouldn’t hand the book over. She clutched that book to her chest like she was declaring she would protect it to her dying day, saying something about having to make sure it was meant to be released that day. Was she kidding me?! I was about ready to rugby tackle her, hide her under the counter and block her in with piles and piles of ‘released’ books and make a quick getaway with mine!

But of course I didn’t, I smiled like a sweetie pie and followed her painfully slow form to the counter instead (trying desperately hard not to write a mental list: Ways to Take Down the Obstacle), where she checked and was “happy to say it was released today! Would you like to buy it then?” -.- no, I skipped sixth form registration, walked the half hour to the high street and just barely stopped myself from sumo wrestling you to the ground, JUST so you could tell me I was right, and that it was in fact released today! “Yes please” was what that translated to in my brain-to-mouth filter. Sales assistants. Don’t you just love them?

But that was over 2 years ago, and I have become an extremely patient girl in that time.

You’d think so at least 😉
